La città di Ladispoli sorge sui resti dell’etrusca Alsium.

Alsium, il cui nome deriva dalla parola greca ἁλς ossia sale, fu il primo porto dell’antica città di Caere fino a quando nel 247 a.C. fu dedotta a colonia marittima da Roma.

Dalla metà del II secolo a.C. (e quasi per tutta l’età imperiale) Alsium fu meta ambita per la costruzione d’importanti ville marittime della nobiltà romana.

In questo tour scopriremo le vestigia dell’antica Alsium ancora presenti su tutta la fascia litoranea del comune di Ladispoli.

The town of Ladispoli was built upon the remains of the ancient Etruscan city Alsium.

Alsium, whose name is from the Greek word ALS, meaning salt, was the first harbour of the ancient Caere and it remained so until 247 b.c., when it became a maritime colony of Rome.

Starting from the half of the II century, and for the whole imperial period, Alsium was the favorite destination of the Roman nobility to build their own maritime villas.
